The warming weather of spring makes it the perfect season to be out in nature. After a long winter where most of your time probably would have been spent at home, it is great to get some sunshine and fresh air. There are many activities that older adults can enjoy in springtime, many of which have to do with the outdoors. Perhaps you or your loved one may also be considering grabbing a friend or two to experience it, especially if you or your loved one have not seen them much in person over the winter season.
If you or your loved one are looking for spring activities to do with friends, we’ve got you covered. Here are our recommended activities.
Take a Stroll Outdoors
As mentioned, spring is the best time to be outdoors. Getting active by going outdoors is a good way to stay healthy. With blooming flowers all around, enjoy the view by taking a walk around the neighborhood or visiting the local park. Find a cool spot, maybe a park bench to have a snack while basking in the sunshine and admiring the surrounding greenery.
Go for Tea Alfresco
The best conversations are held over a cup of coffee or tea. Meeting some friends for a chat over coffee/tea sounds like a lovely idea. As the weather is not too hot, why not have a drink outside? Your catchup over tea can be done at an alfresco café or restaurant where you or your loved one can relax and enjoy the breeze.
Visit a Farmer’s Market
At this time of the year, the farmer’s market will be stocked with fresh produce. With all the colors and activity going on, it is truly a delight for the senses. Even if you or your loved one are not looking to purchase anything there, joining in on the hustle and bustle of it is an experience to try.
Go Fishing
Fishing is a relaxing activity that is more fun when done in the company of friends. It involves lots of waiting, so you or your loved one can use that time for chats with friends. But fishing quickly gets exciting too, when a fish finally bites. Grab a fishing rod and some bait and you or your loved one are now ready to head down to the local pond!
Do Gardening
With the many plants blooming and coming to life in spring, you or your loved one can join in by planting some seeds in the garden. Why not call a friend over to do some simple gardening together? Although it requires you or your loved one to get your hands dirty, it is a fun activity to bond over and worth trying out.
Do Some Arts and Crafts
Arts and crafts is a great activity to do both alone and with others and also a nice gift idea. It keeps you or your loved one entertained and allows you to unleash your creativity. You or your loved one can do some simple spring-themed arts and crafts with friends at home. Participants can do the craft for themselves, or if you would like to switch it up, do the craft for another person as a gift.
