Anderson Has Long Been a “Bright Spot” for Upscale Senior Living in the South Carolina Upstate
Our native Anderson was dubbed “The Electric City” back in the early 1900s when the city became America’s first to have a continuous supply of electric power. Today, our hometown is still buzzing, albeit for different reasons. Modern-day Anderson is a center for innovation, industry, and delightfully affordable living, and with its plentiful amenities and outdoor recreation, great local shopping and dining experiences and an active arts and culture scene, Anderson is a thriving city in the midst of a historic growth cycle.
Most residents would concur that the area’s geographical and cultural epicenter is the Anderson Downtown Historic District. There, charming old buildings harken back to the city’s past, even while serving as the modern-day home to favorite local establishments of today. The Anderson County Museum is among the key stops in Downtown, which is also ground zero for the city’s signature public art and sculpture installations, Carolina Wren Park, and a host of world-class dining and drinking options, none cooler than Palmetto Distillery, whose heritage dates back to the early days of bootleggers and moonshine running.
Outdoor adventures are plentiful in and around Anderson, with Lake Hartwell comprising the city’s western edge. The lake provides ready access to boating and recreation and is a world-class fishing and watersports destination, regularly playing host to professional bass and other fishing tournaments. Explorers and history buffs will also want to visit quaint and historic towns like Pendleton and Williamston, whose traditions date back to the 1700s with an appeal that lives on to this day.
Anderson itself is big on entertainment. Theater lovers will want to catch the Mill Town Players, a favorite of local theater buffs since 2014. There’s also the Anderson Sports & Entertainment Center, a 300-acre haven for live events, including concerts, big games and tournaments, area festivals and so much more. Plus, this is the heart of Tiger Country, and just up the road is Clemson University and its storied football program, which is a perennial contender in the national championship picture. Understandably, game days are a pretty big deal around here, so don’t forget to wear your favorite purple and orange gear!
